Chalk

At Dover I stand tall and proud
declaring  ‘England’s here’.
My sun-bleached walls to welcome all,
that on our shores appear.

I gave to 'prehistoric man',
the flint to light his fire.
My role's to help along the way,
to carry mankind higher.

When cut in sticks I help to give
Our children their best start,
when learning maths or physics
or attempting to draw art.

But ground and sifted at my best,
when babies bathed and done
and towelled down but still quite damp
I’m there to dry their bum!!
